Sorcerer’s Apprentice – Dukas
Trumpet Concerto No.1 – Hummel (soloist: John Wallace)
The Planets Suite – Holst
The York Guildhall Orchestra concludes its 34th season with a flash of acoustic fireworks!
We are delighted to welcome back our old friend John Wallace as soloist in the brilliant trumpet concerto in E.
To accompany such brilliance, we have selected a couple of pieces for the orchestra to show off; the Sorcerers Apprentice is a wonderfully descriptive work, brought to a visual reality by Walt Disney in his classic cartoon depicting the hapless apprentice trying out a little magic, and getting into quite a mess!
The season concludes with a work the orchestra first played back in 1997 - The Planets Suite by Gustav Holst. A fabulous work depicting the solar system as it was known back in 1914 - that is without Pluto!
